Quote Forest Hillbilly at 15 Apr 2013 8.14am heard on Radio5 this morning that the Tories are due to Sell Royal Mail by April next year. It is valued at ?2B, which puts it just inside the FTSE top 100. Rumours are it is to be sold cheap. I wonder if RM will still have a monopoly after this time, or will the Tories open the market to competition ?
This has been on the cards for years. When i was a manager there some 8yrs back Labour were preparing for this very scenario anyway, after having bled it dry for the previous 4yrs or so. The Post Office brand actually had (when i was there) 10+ different business units from Counters, International to Parcelforce and then Royal Mail itself. I'll be interested to see what they let go and choose to keep. In the past Parcelforce would've been the prime candidate to offload...but it's now the shining light of the corporation ironically due to the internet and Amazon. ? Aaaah, the reasoned words of the Chislehurst Martyr. You'll have plenty to time to contemplate the Royal Mail sell off whilst sipping a nice Sancerre at the local branch of Strada with all your other quasi militant chums, whilst not quite being able to strike to assist the workers, because that might affect your chances of becoming Deputy Head of the a primary School you work at, which will get you away from the nightmare of having to teach finger painting to 5 year olds on a daily basis. My view on the matter: it is strange why Royal Mail is struggling whilst Deutsche Post is thriving. Could there be an endemic reason for this? ?
