Chris Wallace Calls Out GOP on Govt. Shutdown: Are You 'Prepared to Shoot' the Hostage?

Fox News host Chris Wallace on Sunday called the Republican Party's bluff and asked if lawmakers were prepared to "shoot the hostage" and shut down the federal government if President Barack Obama refused to defund his healthcare reform law.

During a talk with the conservative Heritage Foundation last week, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) suggested that Obama and Democrats, not Republicans, would be to blame if the government was shut down.

"Under no circumstances will I support a continuing resolution that funds even one penny of Obamacare," Cruz explained. "The next step will be that President Obama and [Senate Majority Leader] Harry Reid will scream and yell, ?Why are those mean and nasty Republicans threatening to shut down the government over Obamacare???

?We?ve got to stand up and make the argument and win the argument that, ?No, that?s not true. We have voted to fund the federal government. We want to fund the federal government. Why is President Obama threatening to shut down the federal government? Because he wants force Obamacare down people?s throats.??

On Sunday, Wallace told Heritage Foundation President Jim DeMint that some of his fellow Republicans had called that idea "suicidal" and "the dumbest idea I've ever heard."

"What about the Republicans who say it's crazy to hold the government funding hostage?" Wallace wondered.

"This is a very destructive law that's going to hurt our country, it's going to hurt a lot of people," DeMint insisted. "This may be the last opportunity to stop it. Now, there's no Republican that I'm aware of that wants to shut the government down. The whole point is we need to fund the government, but we should not fund Obamacare."

"But, Senator, what they say, you know, is you don't take a hostage unless you're prepared to shoot him," Wallace pointed out. "And if you're going to go down this road, are you prepared to shut down the government? Because the Democrats are not going to go along with this."

"I wouldn't shut down the government, but if Obama would not accept a funding bill for the government, that fully funds the government, because it didn't have his failed law in it then he would be shutting down the government," DeMint opined. "And that's the case we're going to take to the American people in August."

    Newsweek sold to IBT Media

By Gil Aegerter, Staff Writer, NBC News

Newsweek is being sold to an online news company, less than a year after it ended publication of its weekly print magazine and went all digital.

IBT Media, which publishes the International Business Times, said it was acquiring Newsweek from IAC, run by Barry Diller. Terms weren?t disclosed.

?"We believe IBT will serve as an excellent new home in which?Newsweek?has the opportunity to thrive," read a memo to employees from Rhonda Murphy, interim CEO of the Newsweek Daily Beast Company.?

Newsweek once had a circulation of 3 million but was in decline when it merged with The Daily Beast in 2010. It ceased print publication on Dec. 31. The deal with IAC is for the Newsweek brand and its online publication, IBT Media said in a statement.

?We respect the brand's long history of delivering high-quality, impactful journalism and believe this aligns well with IBT Media's culture and mission,? Etienne Uzac, co-founder and chief executive officer of IBT Media said in the statement.

IBT Media, which was founded in 2006, said it planned to continue the online publication as a wholly owned subsidiary of IBT Media.

IAC would continue to operate Newsweek for up to 60 days after the deal closes, IBT said. It said Newsweek would return to the URL http://www.newsweek.com.

Personal Trainer Shares Realistic Tips For Getting In Shape ? CBS ...

PITTSBURGH (NewsRadio 1020 KDKA) ? Lisa Seaman, a personal trainer with Fitness Quest Personal Training and Consulting, joined KDKA?s Robert Mangino to talk about realistic steps you can take to get healthy and in shape.

When it comes to the word ?diet? Seaman says, ?we (as personal trainers) just don?t? like that word.?

She says that fit people do something called a ?meal plan? ? a way to change your lifestyle and the way you look at eating.

?We are going to learn how to take the foods, put them in the proper combinations together so that your body can metabolize and burn body fat, so you can be the fitter person,? she said.

She calls a diet, ?a quick fix for red carpet,? but it isn?t something that will work in the long term.

Seaman also says you can ?tickle your taste buds? while eating the proper foods to fuel your body. The problem is that it takes some ?pre-planning? and some people don?t want to take the time to learn what spices and ingredients you can add to you food to help it taste good. But she insists that healthy food can be tasty.

Exercise is an import part of getting the body you want to have, as well.

It?s hard to get the motivation, but Seaman says getting the help of a friend or personal trainer is, ?a great start.?

She adds if you like to dance, you can go out and find a dance class, it?s something that will help you get your foot in the door.

Then, you need a combination of cardio and weight training, ?to really get the body you want.?

Starting can be the hardest part but if you find something you really like to do Seaman says, ?the endorphin release that you will get and the euphoric feel that you feel, if you pick the thing that?s going to be great for you, it?s almost incomparable.?

Seaman says just, ?get the foot in the door and the rest will take care of itself.?

Listen to Robert Mangino every weeknight from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. on NewsRadio 1020 KDKA.
